Introduction

“Life is a rollercoaster!”.

We heard this quote plenty of times and probably used it at some point in life when times got suddenly harder, or suddenly better.
The rush, the excitement, the fear, are some of the words that can describe the feeling of being on one, both emotional or the one on the rails.

I won’t claim for certain, but I believe that every human being was at one point in his life or still is a fan of amusement and theme parks. They are typically meant for kids, but there are a lot of amusement parks that are far from being childish (there is a height limit for a reason)
Besides that, amusement parks have played a major role in the global tourism market. The market for amusement parks reached a value of nearly $51,674.3 million in 2020 and was expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 11.5% to reach nearly $89,174.7 million by 2025.

Some Cities are well-known for their amusement parks (e.g. Anaheim, California, Orlando, Florida), but there are also cities with amazing amusement parks that few people have heard of and even fewer visited.
The goal of this project is to solve this problem and enable people to easily explore the magical world of amusement parks and discover the hidden gems of amusement parks mine.

Proces

Before rolling into design software, we need to determine the whole process that we are going to follow. You should have more or less the same system approaching every new project, that will give you the best results most of the time. Mine looks like this:

  1. Research

  2. Wireframing

  3. Designing

Research

The statistics included in the report confirm that amusement parks hold a strong allure for kids.

26% of the customers are between 3 and 11 years old. And, of course, kids need their parents to visit parks: one guest out of four is aged between 25 and 49. These numbers tell us that, even if the years go by, amusement parks are still a great option to have a family trip. Families are going to be the main target audience for years ahead.

Studies have shown that memory of an event is even more important than the event itself. That’s exactly what I’m aiming for when designing this app. The simple, yet pleasing and appealing look of an app.

Wireframing

I initially started with simple sketching of the main screens of the app (Explore & Map/Visit screens).

Once I understood how the first screens would be conceived, I’ve shifted to Figma and started making the first wireframes.

Low-fidelity wireframes of main screens

While making these wireframes I realized something, if people want to find new amusement and theme parks, they most definitely want to book tickets for those parks, and that’s when I decided to make the whole ticket booking flow.
